The Great Nagoya Uchimizu Campaign 2005

Stiff and stuffy, sprinkle water around the Samurai Town (Issa)

According to one study, about 20% of men still wear long sleeve jackets around town in over 30 degree heat. What Haiku would Issa have possibly composed upon seeing these people?

Employees in the city of Nagoya spend summer dressed in eco-friendly outfits (no ties and jackets) under warmer than normal air-conditioning temperatures, long before those in National Government  Agencies did.

Lights are switched off before work hours and during lunch breaks, while efficient water tap plugs control the flow of water, City of Nagoya does whatever we can do for  saving energy and preventing global warming.

Citizens have been encouraged to use the same motivation seen in the waste reduction scheme and exercise schemes such as “Raise the air conditioning by 1 Degree” and “No Plastic Shopping Bags.”

Uchimizu is the perfect way to cool down during the steaming Nagoya summer and enjoy a nice start  to an environmentally friendly lifestyle change.
