There are now collection locations to properly recycle and dispose of items containing mercury, such as fluorescent lights.

How to Recycle(As of October 2017)

Fluorescent Lights


Bring the item to an Environmental Works Office or Fluorescent Light Collection Participating Retailer (such as a consumer electronics or home improvement store).

*Collection times are in principle, the business hours of the facility.

*For locations with collection boxes, please place your items in the collection box.

Mercury Thermometers


Bring to an Environmental Works Office.

Business Hours: 08:45 to 16:45 (Except Saturdays, Sundays, and the Year-End/New Year period)

Items Not Accepted


Separate into Non-Burnable Garbage.
(Please wrap it in paper and write キケン(dangerous).)
・Incandescent Lightbulbs
・LED Products
・Broken Fluorescent Lights or Mercury Thermometers

*Mercury blood pressure monitors are not collected by the City of Nagoya. Please inquire at stores where it is sold.
