Nagoya Multicultural Coexistence Promotion Plan II

Background

With the end of the planned period for the Nagoya Multicultural Coexistence Promotion Plan, we have prepared the Multicultural Coexistence Promotion Plan II in order to maintain the results of efforts to date in the city while also reviewing changes in the social situation and promoting measures for multicultural coexistence.

Planned period

The planned period for Plan II is five years from fiscal 2017 to fiscal 2021.

Fundamental objective

In order to achieve a city of multicultural coexistence where all citizens acknowledge each other’s cultural differences and can live together happily as members of the community while building relationships of equals, it is important to work to create a stable foundation for the livelihood of foreign citizens and work to improve awareness of multicultural coexistence by all citizens. That way, mutual understanding will be deepened, and foreign citizens will be able to live their lives with safety and peace of mind. And foreign citizens sufficiently expressing their talents and participating in community building alongside Japanese citizens can contribute to maintaining and improving vitality of the community by making use of diversity that comes from various cultural backgrounds.

They fundamental objectives of Plan II are prescribed as follows taking into account those points.

 

Achieve a city of multicultural coexistence where all citizens can live with safety and peace of mind and contribute by making use of diversity.

Policy for measures I : Build foundation for livelihood

  • Fundamental measure 1 : Provision information on the community in multiple languages
  • Fundamental measure 2 : Support for learning Japanese language and culture
  • Fundamental measure 3 : Residence
  • Fundamental measure 4 : Labor
  • Fundamental measure 5 : Education
  • Fundamental measure 6 : Health/medical care/welfare

Policy for measures II : Build communities anyone can participate in

  • Fundamental measure 7: Promote participation in the community by foreign citizens
  • Fundamental measure 8 : Build communities that are safe and provide peace of mind

Policy for measures III : Build a society that makes use of diversity

  • Fundamental measure 9 : Raising awareness of the local community
  • Fundamental measure 10 : Revitalizing the city with diversity
